How to work out how many dispensers your office needs

Verzorgde sanitaire ruimte

A well-equipped washroom goes unnoticed. One that isn’t does not: a washbasin without soap, a toilet without paper, an overflowing bin. The good news: how many dispensers you need is no guesswork. The number of toilets and washbasins determines almost everything.

The basic rule: count your toilets and washbasins

Walk through the building once and count three things: men’s toilets, women’s toilets and washbasins. That’s all you need, because each facility has a fixed set of dispensers:

Per toilet

  • Toilet paper dispenser: choose a non-stop system with room for a spare roll, so nobody is left without.
  • Toilet seat cleaner: every user can quickly clean the seat themselves. A small gesture, a big difference in hygiene.
  • Toilet brush with holder: a closed system looks well kept and is more hygienic than a loose brush.

Per washbasin

  • Hand soap dispenser: preferably with a refill that also replaces the dosing system, so there is never a clogged pump.
  • Paper towel dispenser: sheet-by-sheet dispensing is more economical and more hygienic than a roll.
  • Waste bin: with an open aperture and no view of the contents, large enough for a day’s use.

Per women’s toilet (recommended)

  • Sanitary bin: closed, with no view of the contents. Emptying and maintenance are included as standard.

Per washroom (optional)

  • Air freshener: programmable, so it works during office hours and doesn’t run empty at night.

Worked example: an office with 50 employees

Say: two men’s toilets, two women’s toilets and four washbasins. That gives you:

  • 4 toilet paper dispensers, 4 seat cleaners and 4 toilet brushes (one per toilet);
  • 4 hand soap dispensers, 4 paper towel dispensers and 4 waste bins (one per washbasin);
  • 2 sanitary bins (one per women’s toilet);
  • optionally 2 air fresheners (one per room).

In total around twenty to twenty-four points to install, refill and maintain. That immediately explains why separate orders take so much time: every point has its own refill and its own moment of running empty.

Three mistakes we often see

Dispensers that are too small. Household sizes are not made for twenty colleagues a day. Choose systems for business use with sufficient capacity.

Mixed brands. Every brand has its own refills, so every order becomes a puzzle and the room looks untidy. One uniform line solves both.

Nobody is responsible. Most complaints don’t come from the wrong dispensers, but from refilling being left to “whoever notices it”. Assign it to one person, or outsource it.

Or leave the counting to us
